BBC Wild Ireland (The Edge of the World)

The Skelligs (Aerial)

Aeriel shot of The Skelligs by Valerie O’Sulivan

Over the past few days, I had the great pleasure of watching the BBC’s new documentary series WILD IRELAND – The Edge of the World which takes a coastal trip up alone our Atlantic shore in the company of wildlife cinematographer Colin Stafford-Johnson who lives in Clew Bay.

Episode 1 starts at Skellig – where early Christian monks built a monastery on the summit almost 1,500 years ago. Next, a trip to the Blaskets before heading towards the McGillycuddy Reeks in search of Ireland’s last surviving herd of red deer.

It’s not available on the BBC player in Ireland, but it is available for now on YouTube. Watch it while you can, it’s the best I’ve ever seen – showing us again that the landscape is there for us – just for us to go out there and soak it in.

Enjoy!

Living outside the Mind

“To live the wayless way free and yet bound, learn to live among things but not in things. All God’s friends live this way….among cares but not within cares. How wonderful it is to be so spiritually mature that one exists both outside and inside, one seizes and is seized, one sees and is seen, one holds and is held – that is the goal where the spirit remains at rest united to eternity. There our work and activity in time are just as noble and as full of joy as Mary Magdalene’s retreat in the desert. Remember Martha who in her spiritual maturity was so real that her works did not hinder her.”

Meister Eckhart

The Rain

The rain has returned like it never rained before. It is taking its toll on new growth

Worth repeating

“Be patient towards all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves…do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given to you because you will not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions now.”

Rilke

Everything that is in God, is God”

Meister Eckhart

Patience

Love is patient

To be expectant attentive …….

“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to live the questions themselves. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given to you because you will not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the question now.”

Rilke

So, ’twas decided after Mass in Asdee last Wednesday:

Free your heart from hatred

Free your mind from worries

Live simply

Give more, demand less

Expect miracles in life.

Then in front of the Pantheon in downtown Rome, lack of patience showed a man gone to the dogs!!

Lent 2017

“If I spend enough time with the tiniest creature even a caterpillar-

I would never have to prepare a sermon.

So full of God is every creature.

Meister Eckhart.

Pancake Tuesday was a huge success in downtown Asdee this year.

The hand of the Lord was at work in Kevin’s kitchen :

But the most popular recipe was supplied by Donie O Keeffe:
The result is that, because of its widespread use, everyone is off the drink for Lent in Asdee!
“The Lord works in mysterious ways,”as Noranne Keane says.

Ash Wednesday

During Lent,

 Pope Francis suggests,

ask the Lord:
“Make our hearts like yours. In this way we will receive a heart that is firm and merciful, attentive and generous….a heart that is not closed, indifferent, or prey to the globalisation of indifference.

This Lent,

 inner awakenings,

mediated by

Meister Eckhart:

“God is at home

It is we who have gone out for a walk.”
